A CLEAN CUT!
It’s a new year, which usually means we go back to the gym and get a haircut in order to get off to a fresh start. But what happens after that first haircut of the year? How long until you go back in to get it cleaned up? Their is an “expiration date” with haircuts. Because every single haircut is different. You cannot generalize all haircuts with a 6-8 week time period. Here is a basic breakdown…
Short cropped hair: 4-6 weeks. Super short (pixie) hair can even need some love and attention at the 3 week mark! Think about it– if the hair is roughly 1″ all over, it can nearly double in length within one month. Really short hair can be low maintenance in the mornings but higher maintenance as far as the cut goes.
Short or long bob: 4-6 weeks. If you like to keep your hair between your chin and your shoulders, you know that when it hits your collar bone it will start to flip outward due to the natural curve it follows. If your neck is long, you get to go a little longer. If your neck is short, it’s going to hit your collar bone sooner. Keep that in mind.
Layers: 6-8 weeks. A lot of us get layers to remove the “triangle” that shows up when the haircut grows out. Once the layers are lowered and inch or two from where they started, they don’t move the same. The removed weight comes back and the triangle/bell shape returns. Time for a cut!
Textured shaggy layers or razor cuts: 4-8 weeks(depending on texture). Curly/wavy hair typically gets longer slower, so you can lean closer to the 6 or 8 week mark if the ends aren’t too split. For straighter hair, you’ll need to clean up a shaggy or razored hair cut every 4-6 weeks. Also keep in mind, razors aren’t as sharp as a good pair of scissors. That means you’ll probably get split ends sooner than you would with a scissor cut. But scissors can’t do what a razor can do texture-wise, so it’s a bit of a catch 22. If you like shaggy or rough texture, proper maintenance is key, otherwise it can get quite messy looking, and not in a good way.
Medium to long hair: 8-12 weeks. This is the most flexible hair length as far as cut maintenance goes. You can honestly just go in when it feels too heavy or when you notice a lot of split ends. Clients who have medium to long hair usually come in every 10-12 weeks because most of them are growing their hair out. However, in between cuts, clients book appointments for a gloss or deep treatment to seal their ends down temporarily and hold them over. Due to the fact that this length is the most low maintenance, it can always use lots of love at home (ie: conditioning treatments)!
Long hair: 6-8 weeks. Please don’t go too long. Keep your hair in check. Lets just say it… excessively long hair can appear dry, brittle, unhealthy and shapeless. Hair grows 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch per month on average. Cutting a full inch off every month and a half will still leave your hair super long, but not too long. Please remember that really long hair needs extra love and attention on the ends as well.

All The Info You Need to Know so you can come in and order some Clip in Extensions!

Why you would want to get some Clip In Extensions:

1- To Have a Fun day with long hair, to be able to put them in your hair Occasionally for Fun!

2- To Add Thickness to your hair

3-To Add Length to just the front of your hair.

4-To Add Color

Things to keep in mind:

1-Color choice is key, let us match your hair color to the extensions. ( it usually take 2-3 different colors of hair to help everything blend well.

2-We use 100% all natural hair! (if you get the fake stuff its cheap and will not even be worth your time)

3- These are to be put in for Day Use, don't try and sleep with them in, believe me its not worth even trying, they are meant for a night out on the town, or a day event.

4-Follow washing instructions well, they are very delicate, don't over brush, don't put to much product in them, and dont wash them after every use.

5- Store nicely, so they aren't all tangled.

How to Put Them in All Over:

Section hair off at the back of your head starting about 2 inches from the bottom, tease the hair a little to give added texture for the clip to hold on to. Clip in a 2 clip Section of hair.

Section hair 2 inches up from that section and add a 3 clip section of Hair.

Section temple to temple, and add 2-3 sections of hair and continue added the hair until you get about 1 -2 inches from the top (just depends how thick/thin your hair is)

Once Extensions are clipped in then you can style them how you would like, my favorite way is loose curls all over, it helps blend your natural hair and gives a sexy look. I use a 1 1/4 inch curling iron and curl in sections of the clip in hair combined with natural hair, no need for product on the extensions they curl just fine without it.

To finish use a medium to firm hairspray to complete the dazzling look.

Dry Shampoo? What is That?

Alright, time to give you the rundown on dry shampoo.

What is it?

Dry shampoo is a super-fine powder that comes in spray-on form. Its main purpose is to soak up the oil your scalp produces, which is what makes our hair look dirty. This brilliant cylinder of dust can literally take the hair from looking oily and limp to looking freshly blown out.

What are the benefits of dry shampoo?

When you apply dry shampoo, you’re allowing your natural oils to stay in contact with your hair longer. Dry shampoo = best of both worlds. Oils can stay put, nourishing the hair, while the powder takes away the unwanted grease!

Some of you thermally straighten your hair with a blow dryer and/or flat iron. When you do that, you want to make it last as long as possible so you’re not over doing it with heat styling. Putting dry shampoo on freshly straightened locks can easily extend the life of a blow out. Think of it like this; high temperatures cause condensation + gland stimulation at your scalp. Oil, sweat and moisture lead to curls coming back. Applying dry shampoo to the roots before working out or stepping out into warmer weather can significantly slow that down by soaking it all up!

Bangs and Forehead problem, Dry Shampoo works wonders for keeping out the greasiness on your bangs. It also gives incredible added texture to short, cropped hair when applied on top of a water based pomade or paste.

When hair is super thick, curly or coarse, it naturally lacks moisture because oils don’t travel down the hair as quickly. It could need more time between shampoos! Going one extra day between washings can help natural oils make their way down the hair shaft that much further. If the hair is very dry, try lightly applying dry shampoo on the part only.

The only people who don’t really need dry shampoo are those of you who don’t produce much oil or those of you that have a dry scalp. The few who can go 3-5 days without so much as a glimmer of unwanted sheen are very lucky. Just be sure you’re properly conditioning and getting nourishment to the ends of your hair!

When do you put it on?

Dry shampoo goes on air dried or blow dried hair. Not on wet hair.
It works well if you put it on right after you blow dry your hair the first day, so that when the oils come out the dry shampoo catches them! This keeps it from getting dirty and flat to begin with. I’ve come to find that dry shampoo on clean hair leads to extra bounce and volume.

Where do I get it?

How do I apply it?

If you’re wearing your hair down, you don’t need to apply underneath in the back, mostly just on the top, maybe around the part and along the front hairline. If you’re wearing your hair up in a bun or ponytail, you’ll want to get underneath a little bit. The ultimate trick with ANY dry shampoo is patting it in. Not brushing, not wiping with your hand, just patting it lightly until it blends in.

How to do a Side Chignon-
A Simple, elegant and classic look

1) Start by using Kenra's Root boost on wet hair, add Design Pulse's Texturing creme, round brush hair.
2) Once completely dry use a Large Curling iron to create waves from the ears down.
3) Tease the hair gently and create volume and height spray with Kenra's Hairspray
4) Gather hair into a low ponytail. Twist it along the nape of your neck, pinning as you go.
5) Once you have twisted from the back till you get to your ear, shape the remaining hair into curls. Pin them back over the twist you created.
6) Finish with Kenra Hair Spray!!
